Attention all pattern enthusiasts, here comes Volume 2 of Skillshare pattern classes for budding surface designers!
I’ve been taking all the Skillshare classes related to pattern design I can lay my eyes on and I’ve found more fabulous gems that are a must-watch if you’re really interested in getting into the world of surface pattern design…
If you want to check the first round of recommended classes please visit ’10 best Skillshare classes for budding pattern designers’, where I also give you an introduction to Skillshare and other background info.
Skillshare’s repertoire of classes keeps growing every day, with some amazing teachers joining the crew constantly. That’s why I like to keep an eye open so I can keep sharing great resources with my lovely readers.
To be able to watch these Skillshare classes you must be a paying member. You can get full access for $7-$10 a month, BUT because you’re a fabulous Pitter Pattern reader, you can get a 2-months FREE trial if you sign up through any link on this page… How’s that?!?
Please note: As a Skillshare teacher, I’ll get a small referral bonus if you sign up to any of the classes through Pitter Pattern (at no extra cost to you, but it does help run the blog!). But let me tell you that even if I didn’t get a penny I would still recommend these gems. I’ve taken these classes, I loved them and that’s why I support them.
So here they are, 10 essential Skillshare pattern classes for surface designers (in no particular order):
With Evgeniya Righini-Brand
Evgeniya is a graphic designer, photographer and experienced teacher. She knows her stuff inside out and her classes are interesting, detailed and easy to follow. In this class, she teaches you tools and techniques for creating eye-catching Neo-Memphis style patterns in Adobe Illustrator.
With Evgeniya Righini-Brand
Another great class by Evgeniya. This class is a follow-up to her ‘Creating Trendy Abstract Patterns in Illustrator’ (above). Here she goes a step further by showing you different approaches to combining patterns, creating collections, using patterns in illustrations, choosing colours and developing compositions.
With Nicole Martinez
Nicole is an art director, illustrator and designer. In this class, she shows you how to easily design your own wrapping paper using the pattern feature in Adobe Illustrator. She uses basic shapes to create fun and inventive designs, perfect for beginners as no previous experience is required.
With Helen Bradley
Helen is a lifestyle journalist and specialises on writing software tutorials. She’s also the creator of the Illustrator for Lunch™ & Photoshop for Lunch™ series, great for when you have a few minutes to spare in between busyness. This class does exactly what it says on the tin…
With Helen Bradley
Another very useful class by Helen. Here she shows you how to use the MadPattern Illustrator templates to create very complex reflected/rotated patterns. Great for experimenting and creating unexpected results… Well worth checking out.
With Nic Squirrell
Nic is an artist and illustrator. In this class, she shows you how to harness the power of your iPad and your painting apps to create seamless repeat patterns. Great for those who love to design on the go or to get away from the computer and work from the comfort of their own sofa!
With Kristi O’Meara
Kristi is an artist, designer and author. She’s also the founder of the Patternbase Textile Design Studio. Here she shows you how to create repeating patterns from your hand-drawn illustrations using Adobe Photoshop. Great if you want to have a go at both the manual and the digital repeat techniques.
With Christine Nishiyama
Christine is an illustrator and writer. In her class she teaches how to create radial patterns, another very popular version of repeating patterns. She starts with tips and techniques for coming up with ideas and finishes it all up in Adobe Illustrator. No previous experience of drawing or Illustrator necessary.
With Agnieszka Kobylinska
Agnieszka left her advertising job to become a surface pattern designer not long ago. Her class won’t teach you how to create patterns, so bring your own… She will show you how to use those patterns to create realistic mockups to show prospective clients, use on your portfolio or just for your own satisfaction!
With Samantha Wilson
Samantha is a hand letterer, calligrapher & illustrator. This class is part of the “Now What” series. Perfect for those of you who have spent the time creating some patterns and are thinking about the next steps. What can you do with those designs? Look no further…
