Naples University Metro Station on Pitter Pattern [1]

When we talk about surface pattern design, we usually conjure images of wonderful wallpapers, textiles or stationery; but surface design can be applied to an ever-growing range of objects and materials, in fact, designs can be created for pretty much anything with a surface! That’s why I’m sharing with you today something a little unusual: the amazingly colourful, patterned & fun Naples University Metro Station.

Designed by Architect Karim Rashid in collaboration with Atelier Mendini, this subway station is located in Naples, Italy and serves a multi-cultural, academic community of thousands of passengers a day.

For the station we designed a creative concept that communicates and embodies knowledge in the new digital age, language in the shrinking global landscape, innovation and mobility in this third technological revolution.

I’ll leave you with a few images, as they’re worth a thousand words… Spend a few minutes discovering all the amazing details, the surprises waiting on every surface and be mesmerised by the striking use of colour and pattern.

I am a designer, originally from Colombia and now living permanently in Cornwall, UK. I graduated in Product Design but since then have mostly worked in graphics for print and web. A few years ago I decided to specialise in Surface Pattern Design and I'm loving it!
