Veronica Galbraith on Texitura magazine [1] | Pitter Pattern

Exciting! 12 of my surface pattern designs have been featured in printing design magazine Texitura!

Texitura is one of the most important international pattern design trend magazines. With a history of over 30 years, each issue is an explosion of graphic inspiration for the decoration of all kinds of surfaces, from fashion textiles to wallpaper, stationery, plastics, vinyl, home textiles, etc. Texitura offers you 18-month anticipated pattern design trends.

This issue contains 3 print trends for Spring/Summer 2014 with their respective 18 colour palettes and their Pantone references. It features contributions from designers from all around the world, including me, with 12 of my surface pattern designs being featured across the 3 trends!

Texitura is created by a fantastic group of trend forecasters based in Spain and it’s published twice a year, in January and July.

I found out about Texitura just by browsing the web, in one of those never-ending hunts for more info about the surface design world. I saw on their site that they wanted designers to contribute for the next issue. I wasted no time and contacted them.

They sent me 3 briefs for the 3 trends with colour palettes included. They warned me that even if I sent designs it didn’t mean I would get into the book – they only print approx. 25% of all the received submissions…

I left that email in my inbox and forgot about it as, at the time, I was designing for Indigo Paris, and I was furiously concentrating on that. When Paris was done and dusted I remembered about the deadline for Texitura, opened the email and realised I had 2 days to do my designs! I thought I didn’t have enough time and even if I went for it I didn’t have a chance to actually get featured… Then I thought I couldn’t let the opportunity go by…

I sat for those 2 days designing like a maniac, sent the designs and a couple of weeks later they sent me an email welcoming me to the Texitura family! I was sent the book for free as well, which is very nice of them…

The 3 trends featured are:

  • Bloom-Bloom (big florals in vibrant colours)
  • UFO-ture (alien nature environments)
  • Re-Play (reuse and recycle)
